If there is ever something I may one day (hopefully) be known for, it's the way I capture images and see the world. I have often talked about writing a photography book called "Foreground Interest". Since that always seems to be what my eye finds to shoot. I love being in new and incredible places that have been photographed millions of times, and trying to find a unique way to shoot it. Most of the time that consists of finding something to capture in the foreground with my main subject being in the background. In this case, it was the epic monuments of Monument Valley.
Maybe one day I will get around to writing that book, but until then, I will keep shooting the way I love to shoot. Hopefully you enjoy it too :)

When is it appropriate to use black and white? A lot of people don't know the answer to this question. Often times black and white is used incorrectly to compensate for bad lighting or white balance. It is even used to make photos have that "timeless" look.
My philosophy on black and white is that it should be used when the contents are more valuable than the color. In other words, when the color in your photo does not add any value to the photo then it shouldn't be there. Black and white photography forces the eye to appreciate the texture and content of the photo.
But art is subjective right? In my opinion, the texture and contents in today's Pic of the Day needed no color. I think the color distracts from the grandeur of the scene. But what do you think. What is the better photo to you? Color or B&W?
Funny how the same photo can be so drastically different isn't it? This is why black and white should only be used when necessary.

Sometimes the clouds form, and the sun sets, and the sky stops you right in your tracks. In this particular case I was camping outside of St. Louis. I grabbed my Samsung mirrorless camera and ran out to try and find a spot to grab a shot of this amazing sky. I took several with my phone and camera, all of which blew me away. Because sometimes you stop in a moment like that, think about what all had to come together to make such a beautiful moment in time, and just appreciate the wonderful world we live in.

One of the best things about my job is the people I get to meet. I am lucky enough to get to travel around the world and meet new and interesting people who share the same passion I have for photography.
This happened recently, and I got to stay with the awesome McVoy family at their beautiful home in California. The last night I was there, I spent several hours out on their property wandering around with their atv, shooting the milky way. This was one of my favorites from that night.
Thanks to the McVoy clan for their hospitality. I have never met such a cool, tech savvy family, so into photography. I am truly blessed :)
